The North Coast People's Alliance evolved from Northern Humboldt for Bernie, which was a grassroots movement that helped to secure a local landslide victory for Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary, with a whopping 70% of Humboldt County Democratic voters casting their ballot for Sanders - the highest margin in all of California.

Empowered by the skills and knowledge we acquired, and the sense of community we formed as a group, we embarked on a journey to turn our shared passion for the messages expressed by Bernie Sanders' campaign into something more enduring for our local community. We are now in the process of growing an organization to empower ordinary people to become more engaged in political processes, and to make our representatives - from local school boards on up to federal representatives - truly accountable to the citizens they serve, and our best interests.

Our Mission:
North Coast People's Alliance is a hub of organizing activity for Northern California. We advocate for economic, environmental, and social justice, with a particular focus on local progressive electoral issues. We are not aligned with any political party; rather, we seek common ground on issues that transcend partisan politics.

Core Values
We are a diverse group of individuals with a wide array of beliefs, passions, strengths, and challenges. We are committed to working together to bring about positive change in our community, and pledge to abide by the following core values:

  • Unity – A better Humboldt is possible only through our collective action; we aim to unite people from all backgrounds and all walks of life to foster a united community effort to protect our air, our water, our schools, our families, and our democracy.
  • Respect – We agree to treat each other, through both words and actions, with caring and respect.
  • Open-mindedness – We strive to listen deeply and with open hearts to the perspectives of others.
  • Democracy – We work to hold elected officials accountable, creating a culture of transparency and public involvement. We make space for all voices to be heard, and all participants to have power and develop leadership skills.
  • Diversity – We are registered to many political parties, and we all agree on the need for a strong progressive movement where like-minded individuals and organizations actively support one other.
